Ella’s, Maythé’s, and Rebecca’s Croque-Monsieur

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
3 tablespoons of butter
6 slices of white bread
6 slices of Swiss cheese
12 slices of deli sliced ham
4 tablespoons all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions:

1. Use 2 tablespoons of the butter to spread over one side of each slice of the bread. On 3 of the slices, spread a layer of Dijon mustard over the butter and then 4 slices of ham.

2. On the other 3 slices, spread mayonnaise and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Then press ham and cheese slices of sandwiches together.

3. In a flat bottomed dish, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, and water until blended, set aside.

4. Heat remaining butter and vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. dip both sides of each sandwich in the egg mixture, and fry in oil and butter until browned, flipping to brown on each side.
